BUTTERMILK : New photography by George Irvine (Jenny Blyth Fine Art)

Jenny Blyth Fine Art and Patricia Baker-Cassidy, Art Jericho present a new exhibition of photography by George Irvine.

Irvine is both painter and photographer, and in this collection of photographs, drawn from over 25,000 amassed over a period of five years, he invites us to explore through the eye of a painter.

BUTTERMILK springs from the rural beauty that surrounds Irvine in idyllic English countryside. Focusing on the trappings and fixtures of a working farm that catch his eye, Irvine transforms found objects to infer landscape which he brings to life through composition, light and colour. Thus, an iced trough turned upside down creates a waterfall with swirling pool, and the underside of a fibreglass boat morphs to cliffs and high skies.

Calling to mind Turner and Rothko, Irvine's work reflects the influences that have inspired him. He studied Painting at the Slade with Euan Uglow and Bruce Mclean - apparent in the dynamic energy and sheer celebration of colour that Irvine achieves as his compositions.

Matthew Alexander returns for his second One Man Show (The Bourne Gallery)

Bourne Gallery are delighted to welcome back Matthew Alexander for his second One Man Show with Bourne Gallery, opening Saturday 29th November 2008.

As a painter Matthew is able to couple both a faultless eye and a technique that appears limitless in its ease, touch and deftness.

His paintings, particularly those of Kent and the Thames, reveal him as the subtlest of colourists able to distil and capture for all that special light (or murk) that we think of as essentially ‘English’.

The Exhibition features river and estuary views together with coastal and rural subjects.

You can meet the artist on the opening weekend, Saturday 29th November and Sunday 30th November. The exhibition closes on the 20th December 2008.

Find emerging talent at new online contemporary art gallery; murmurART (murmurART)

murmurART, a new website that showcases emerging talent, will launch on 26th November 2008 to give promising young artists an unrestricted level of exposure. Offering artist's work for sale, www.murmurart.com wants a wider audience to experience fresh, contemporary art.

The website will launch with around 40 artists displaying their work. Notable exhibitors include the painter Laurence Owen, the sculptor and public artist Kevin Harman, video artist Giles Ripley and former portraitist Hugo Wilson.

A high-level of technological specification is a key feature of the site. All artists' portfolios are professionally photographed, ensuring the highest possible level of image rendering. This enables members to truly engage with the work on display. Alongside each portfolio the site provides a detailed profile of the artist and all pieces are available for direct sale at any time.

Most artists lack consistent gallery representation, but by utilising the technology available, murmurART provides year-round exhibition space. It also gives members a means to discover exciting emerging artists and access a whole new section of the art market.

With fewer costs involved in exhibiting online, murmurART say they charge the artist much lower commission than traditional galleries. This means that art buyers can rest assured that the majority of their investment is going straight to the artist.

murmurART will host monthly online exhibitions on the site under the curatorship of invited talent from the UK and abroad. These will allow visitors to gain a deeper insight into the work from established art-world figures such as Flora Fairbairn and Catriona Warren.

About selected artists

-Laurence Owen is a painter and rarer film-maker. He has shown at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival and in the Serpentine Gallery as part of Damien Hirst’s permanent collection. Laurence will be exhibiting previously unseen work at the launch.

-Hugo Wilson was initially a classical portrait painter, shortlisted for the 2005 BP Portrait prize and exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery, before retraining in an MA at City and Guilds, where his end of year show sold out to buyers including Old Vic art director Kevin Spacey.

-Kevin Harman won first prize from the Edinburgh college of art, for the work Love thy Neighbour, for which he stole 200 doormats from an up- market Edinburgh estate, leaving a note to ask with their neighbour if they want to see it again. He later installed them in the sculpture exhibition, and informed their owners to collect them. His other public art projects include cleaning out and re-arranging builder’s skips over weekends.

-Video artist Giles Ripley was picked out of the Chelsea BA show to show in four exhibitions for the best new artists including Anticipation 2008 in Selfridges and New Contemporaries at the Liverpool Biennial. He was selected by Art World magazine as the best video artists from this year’s college shows.
